Planning Your Family Session
Family photography may be captured outdoors or in studio, although I’ve found that children are more comfortable in the beautiful outdoors. If a particular seasonal landscape is on your wishlist, be sure to schedule with me several months in advance. Cotton fields, for example, will have a small timeframe between plant maturity and harvest. I typically have three weeks of availability for cotton field sessions, so you’ll want to grab one of those dates early. Before the session, we will meet for a consultation or discuss details over the phone. I provide outfit styling assistance through on online service, but am also available to advice your on wardrobe selections. We want everyone to look their best, so you can relax on your session day.
Family Session Day
Family photography sessions last from one to two hours, and are usually scheduled an hour and a half before sunset. That is when sunlight is softest and most flattering for your family portraits. When I set out for a family portrait session, I hope to capture connections and authentic expressions. I will still provide posing guidance, but your family is the focus and you bring your true selves to each session. It is also important for young children to have movement and breaks. I keep shooting when they are a little bit silly and wild, and I capture photos when they are somber and cuddly. The real moments in between poses often end up being favorites.
After Your Family Session
About a week after the session, we will meet in the studio for your proof viewing. Here, you will be able to choose your images, and I’ll assist you with wall art and album design. I have an expertly curated collection of frames, wood prints, and album choices to compliment your family portraits. Production time varies with individual items, but print products are typically ready for pick up within eight weeks of your completed order.
As your family photographer, I understand that your family may be growing. Any family session may be combined with maternity to document your growing family. I offer both relaxed family-maternity sessions, as well as more styled maternity portraits.
