Before we left Mississippi, I really wanted to photograph some families in a sunflower field. We had two fields located within an hour, so I knew this was my chance. Sunflowers are my favorite flower. I think they are just the happiest burst of sunshine in plant form. So I put the word out, and a few families signed up for sunflower field family photos.

One of the best parts about being a community minded photographer is getting to work with other photographers and their families from time to time. My friend, Cat, was about to leave Mississippi but still had photo-ready outfits handy. You know, just in case. She is a photographer after-all. I brought the little overalls for her son, and she dressed her little girl in a Cora & Violet butterfly dress. Cat wore her Reclamation dress. They all looked great, and the outfits she pulled together were perfect for their sunflower field family photos.

The sunflower fields only bloomed for about a week. With the high temperatures of July, the property owners warned me that they’d wilt fast. The weather really only gave us two options during that week: sweltering heat or spontaneous showers. Cat’s family got the steamy heat for their session. They were great though, and stuck it out. By the end of their session we were all ready for air conditioning and ice cream.
